Diamonds from Antwerp

Antwerp, a first class trade and cultural center is located in the heart of Europe, linked to the North Sea by one of the world’s largest ports. During Antwerp’s Golden Age in the 16th century, 40% of the world trade passed through its ports making it the commercial heart of Europe. In 1866, the first diamond was found in Central South Africa, producing an ever increasing supply of goods which found their way to Antwerp. Following the discoveries of diamonds and rough stones in South Africa at the end of the 19th century, Antwerp has become the world’ leading diamond center.

Currently over 60% of the world’s diamonds, rough, polished, industrial or gem, pass through Antwerp. For over five centuries, Antwerp has been a center for diamond industry and trade. This diamond tradition has led to the development of three diamond schools in the area who guarantee a perfect product in weight, quality and price. This guarantee is symbolized in the top quality labeled “Antwerp cut” diamond, appreciated and known world wide for its elegance and beauty.

Antwerp's diamond cutters are known for their fine craftsmanship, and specializing in the best cut, quality and polish worldwide.

Jerry Caves at Caves Jewelry is proud to have an invitation from the Diamond High Council to join other top jewelers each year in Antwerp, where he can examine and purchase these high quality diamonds.
